The area: Product Management

With eyes focused squarely on the future, our team works closely with creative and prolific engineers to help design and develop technologies that improve access to the world's information. We're responsible for guiding products throughout the execution cycle, focusing specifically on analyzing, positioning, packaging, promoting and tailoring our solutions to all the markets where Google does business.
The role: Product Manager, Orkut
As an Orkut Product Manager, you will change the way our users interact with their friends. Think of it as the future of online friendships -- which will influence the creation of most websites moving forward. You will combine your great instincts for developing compelling products with your strong academic and technical background. You will work with a world class engineering team to build new products, enhance existing products, and utilize your business sense to drive local product goals and strategies. You will be responsible for the product throughout the execution cycle, including: gathering product requirements, defining product vision, creating preliminary design concepts, and working closely with engineering to implement and iterate.
Responsibilities:
* Initiate new products and product enhancements to meet existing or anticipated market needs
* Determine product specifications and document in a Product Requirements Document (PRD)
* Initiate and prioritize projects within engineering; track product development; develop product launch plans; establish short and long term product goals and strategies
* Engage closely with the engineering team to help determine the best technical implementation methods as well as a reasonable execution schedule
* Work with cross-functional internal teams (e.g. sales, client services, marketing, legal, etc.) to gather customer feedback and ensure smooth and successful launches
Requirements:
* BA/BS preferred in Computer Science or a related technical field; MS or PhD a plus
* Strong understanding of internet user needs and an innovative history of addressing them
* Proven track record for product delivery and demonstrated ability to provide hands-on management
* Entrepreneurial drive and demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast paced environment
* Strong user interaction and design skills
* Demonstrated ability working with technical teams to produce prototypes and iterations
* Excellent communication skills in English and Portuguese
